Consider Today

“Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.  Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?  Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” (Luke 12)

My mother always said being a mother means ‘worrying’ and worrying about your children is part of the job! Of course, as a parent you do worry about your children and the choices they make. But, worrying does not control their future or prevent them from experiencing painful situations. So what can we do in place of worrying? Consider replacing worry with prayer....trust your loved ones to the one who knows them best.....God who created and knew them before they were born!

Consider for a moment the things you worry about?  Do these worries keep you awake at night? Have you always wanted to travel, but the thought of flying fills you with fear? How many times in a day do you think about ‘what could happen’ vs what is happening? If you find that you are spending more time worrying then you need to consider Jesus’ advice to his disciples…recognize your GREAT value and worth to God.

 Now consider how your worries might be negatively influencing your thoughts and actions. Do they stand in the way of your future, prevent you from making important decision or stop you from helping others?  These fears and anxieties play havoc on our physical, spiritual and emotional well-being. The longer we entertain them the harder they are to let go of. So what can we do? Consider being honest with yourself and God talk to him and remember his promises;

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord, They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope". Jeremiah 29:11.

Corrie Ten Boom who survived a Nazi prison camp during the Holocaust shared her definition of worrying, “Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength-carrying 2 days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows; it empties today of its strength”.

Therefore, let us not be emptied of the strength we need for this day. Consider instead to place your worries in God's hands and trust him to do the rest!
