2017 - 'What if .............'
The Season of Change
As we move into the New Year many of us will make New Year’s resolutions vowing that this is the year we are seriously going to make a change. Such changes as, losing weight, making more money or finding that perfect someone will top most lists. But, before you make that promise I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on the meaning of ‘change’ and how ‘change’ can be something you fear as opposed to something you may seek.
Webster’s dictionary defines change as; to make different, to give a different position course or direction to, and to undergo transformation and/or transition. For many of us the thought of making a change whether it is job, location or just a new hair style can cause great anxiety and stress. The ‘what if’ questions begin to swirl around in our heads. ‘What if’ I can’t do the job, ‘what if’ my neighbors are not friendly and ‘what if’ I hate my new haircut? Fear of the unknown keeps us returning year after year to the familiar even if the familiar is keeping us from growing healthier spiritually and emotionally.
It is my belief that only in God’s strength can we be successful at keeping our New Year’s resolutions. So, ‘what if’ instead of choosing what we would like to change we pray, ‘change me Lord’? ‘What if’ we let go and let God?
God has created us in His perfect love and has gifted us with great potential and self-worth to do wonderful things in this world. ‘What if’ we understood this truth asking God to show us who we are in Him and our true purpose and call in life? What would we be doing differently in 2017 and how would we see ourselves and others?
‘What if’ you decided to join with me and pray; “Change me (us) Lord’ and let HIM do the rest…. What a difference you and I would see! May this New Year bring you great peace and everlasting change.
Show me the right path O Lord, point out the road for me to follow. lead me by your truth and teach me. All day long I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:4-5
Happy New Year!
